Ini Dia Buku-Buku yang Layak Dicuri!!

Setelah membaca buku Allison Hoover Bartlett  “The Man Who Loved Book Too Much.” yang bercerita tentang Gilkey, seorang pencuri buku langka yang mencuri karena kecintaannya pada buku, dan Ken Sanders, sang detektif buku, saya menjadi tahu banyak tentang hal mengenai buku.

Bagi sebagian orang buku tidak hanya sekedar bacaan berisi pengetahuan, buku juga menjadi simbol status sosial. di masa lalu hanya segelintir orang saja yang memiliki hak istimewa untuk membaca dan memilki buku. mereka haruslah seorang bangsawan, kaya atau seorang yang sangat berpengaruh di masyarakatnya.

Buku juga bagi sebagian orang adalah jembatan menuju masa lalu, menuju pusaran kenangan. maka tidak heran jika sejumlah buku kemudian memiliki harga yang sangat mahal karena ketuaannya, penulisnya yang tersohor, jumlahnya yang terbatas ataupun keunikan lain dari buku tersebut.

Melalui buku ini juga saya menjadi tertarik untuk mengetahui 100 daftar buku terbaik sepanjang masa versi Modern Library, buku-buku yang menjadi incaran para kolektor. saya pun membuka situs Modern Library di http://www.randomhouse.com/modernlibrary/100bestnovels.html.
Situs ini memang berisi buku-buku terbaik dan terpopuler, baik itu novel maupun nonfiksi. termasuk di dalamnya the satanic verses karangan salman rusdie yang sangat kontraversial menyusul adanya fatwa mati Khomeni terhadap penulis buku ini.
